At the Beach, so cold

Winter vacation at the beach. So very cold, so cold! We like it.

We had to go out and buy a new heater. The first day we camped together on one room to keep it warm. Fun. The house had been closed for months and it takes a while to heat it up.
We decided that we could not go without another heater for the other room.

We keep the house warm. Some strategy of closing certain doors at night to keep the warmth in the rooms we need. So at morning, the living room is warm and you open the kitchen door and it's freezing. I make mate and turn the oven on with door open for a while. That does the trick.

At night under the blankets...another microclimate. My nose is hardly above the blankets and I feel the cold air. Memories of our first winter in Vancouver in our ground level suite on 4th ave. We relied on the central heating (was obviously insufficient). It didn't occur to us to buy a radiator. Why? I don't know. Money was tight but I don't think it was that. Maybe coming from a warm climate it took us a while to realize that kind of cold was the new normal...I don't know

Theo has a fever and Mica a strange rush. He's desperately itchy (at nights) I think after some beach combing with exciting (but suspicious) crab parts the other day.

Fall Wedding

How nice to work with an inspired Bride! She chose to mix and match several of my pieces and ask me to customize all coordinating with her plum, purple, lavender and sage palette.

At home: trying to get over the viruses...Mica is still sick. It's been a long week! He's taller and slimmer. He's grown through the fever

More The la Plata pieces

I keep building a collection for my other shop : The la Plata

My new pieces are what I call a "Modern Folk" This is my personal distillation of the Folk art of different parts of the world. I'm using the sediments of what's in my mind...I'm not doing particular research...just bringing what I've seen, what I've felt, what I've been attracted to for over 20 years and letting it come out as clay pieces, shapes, color combinations.

Some metal color pieces are coming up too. Soon to be revealed.

Most of the pieces want to be worn together. In groups of 2 or 3. Layers, color + metallic together...so many new things are coming up.

I'm using a lot of elements to create this pieces. It's really a creative adventure. The most unthinkable little elements will offer a new shape. I look at my surroundings with fresh eyes...what can yield an interesting shape? I browse in my brain back up for muted, earthy color combinations.

These are pieces I wear every day...My own aesthetic preference is manifested.

Much more to come soon!

Painting

I've signed up for the painting e-course of the lovely Kelly Rae Roberts.

Joy unleashed, to use her expression and I've been painting and collaging and mixed media-ing since then!

My  suffered IKEA drawer cabinet had a nice makeover.

Proof of the fun step by step:

It looks like a children's book now!
