Happy New Year

Palabras de Marina: Quiero desearles sobre todo mucha serenidad para poder apreciar la abundancia de la vida, lo linda que es, y cuanto depende de cada uno ese reconocimiento, Lo mejor para todos !!!!

Words from my friend Marina: I want to wish you much inner peace to be able to appreciate the Abundance of Life, and how much that realization, depends upon each one of us. Best wishes for all!

In the kitchen

This has been going on at different cooking sessions and once all at a time.

Chopping vegetables. I've just learned that broccoli and cauliflower stalks are as nutritious and delicious as the flower.

Chopping, blanching and sauteing to make lovely quiche.

Leeks and Peppers // Carrots, Green bean, Cream

That's pretty much the usual....and now saving some seeds as well

 And the scraps...

Go to the compost!

Learning curve

Not many successful stories in the garden so far. This is probably the only good looking plant. A single potato growing into this strong beautiful plant and we'll see what's in store under the dirt at harvest time. Meanwhile I'm enjoying its green beauty.

I'm learning a lot about soil.

An exhausted soil won't bear healthy edible vegetables.

Soil must be airy, soft and full of organic matter.

You need to FEED the soil with as much compost and other fertilizers you can.

I've been planting worms here and there in my backyard trusting they will enrich my soil. Worms are awesome animals that multiply your soil 5 times in terms of nutrients, etc. And one worm generates 1300 worms over a year. Wow!

I'm now trying some pots at the terrace. I'm preparing soil better this time and there's much more solar light exposure up there than in the backyard. We'll see how those go (I've put sunflower, arugula and chard and some more are coming)

On a bright note: a few lemon seedlings are showing up and that's great joy. I love my lemon tree and I definitely want to share it with the world. I'm blessed with delicious, big, juicy and aromatic lemons every year that I share with my neighbours. Everybody's comment is: the lemons you buy at the shop can't compare with these beauties. What about planting some lemon trees here and there?

One single lemon has 10 potential tress inside. One single tree bears about 150-200 (?) lemons every year. As a new gardener I still marvel at this power and abundance.

Tiny house

A few days at the beach, this time dad was not with us but brother/uncle Emi
We started visiting the Adobe house that emu's friend is building for his family at Barrio El Casal

Then off to my brother's tiny house where we spent a couple sweet days. Cozy, a bit cold, we stayed close to the stove and furnace for heat. Staying physically very close because the apartment is tiny. Just sticking to the bare necessities. It was simply lovely

Some yummy treats, games, internet, mate...we tend to think that more is better but have you really experienced less? Austerity suits my spirit very well. Just the right amount. Love must abound though!

Love in abundance partly thanks to Lola, the messy dog!

And Mantra the super elegant cat

Mariana's patio is magical for me! Beautiful plants grow from the compost.  It's great to sit there with her and have mate, and talk, and feel all the goodness in life

And it's also beautiful to share "cafe" with my smart and sweet big boy.

And there's my brother who is a handsome man. He drives a 1956 Jeep. (that he proudly tuned up). I love him dearly. We both had the fiercest fights when we were kids and now we're very close. I don;t worry when my kids fight a lot. I trust they will b best friends when they're older.

More green

These pics are a couple of weeks old but things are still pretty small and tender on planet garden. Sprouts that need time and sunshine to develop. I go out every morning and inspect them careful to see the progress. Now that I got an interest in edible plants I'm still in amazement to observe the process of growth. How cam a small seed produce a beautiful plant, food, and more seeds....

Teacher appreciation gift

Sometimes when I create custom orders I incorporate colors that I wouldn't normally choose, and usually I'm delighted with the results.

Green!! My good friend asked me to make this set in green for her son's teacher. I think the different shades maximize the pretty pattern of the medallion!

I've placed a little ad for my Etsy shop in the great paper blog by Ann Martin All Things Paper. Totally worth to visit her beautiful curation of paper goods and artisans. I've been reading her for years now and she always has fresh and beautiful things to share.

Today it's Mother's Day here. I woke up very early as usual and baked some bread (I left it to raise and forgot yesterday), so the house smells really well. I've found a very pretty drawing/card by Mica on my little table where I sit every morning. Happy Mother's Day, lots of happy faces and a battle including arrows and cannons. A bit of this and a bit of that I guess :)

Long overdue

Hiding under blankets because, yes, I'm still recovering from nasty bugs and very tired and also trying to stay out of the way to let husband try a new recipe. (go P. go!!) If I'm around I can't help being too helpful and control freak. Better rest and let him do.

Also staying FAR from the kids who are usually fighting or asking for snacks. I'm trying to ignore that they're doing too much videos on iPad...but you know what: They're sick too. It's OK!

Time to recapitulate the birthdays of September.
My sweet oldest boy is 10. A creative, com passive, awesome boy who can teach me MANY things. His new passion is chess

My Birthday too! Brekfast with myself very early AM using the new ceramics I made with friend M.

Symbolic Mandala.

Dinner at home with friends

And the following morning, from yesterday and the boy who always draws

Things that grow

It's amazing how things grow, specially in Spring and summer. Someone gives you a sprig of oregano, you plant in the garden and it starts growing strong

A few arugula seeds in some plastic pots will start to grow in just a few days and then if you can you plant them in soil. Otherwise in bigger pots. They grow fast and are delicious. Very good for anxious people!

A little stolen sprig go geranium goes to the dirt and gets super strong in a matter of days. If you wait enough you'll have eye soul happiness in any windowsill.

The lemon tree is at peak. Not only bearing the most fragrant fruit but beautiful blossoms and flowers.

And of!
