Reflections on reflections

Vicki and I watch the reflections on the water. She's at Trout Lake Park in Vancouver. The old neighbourhood. She tells me: 10 or 15 minutes observing this and the biblical words made total sense : as is above so is below, as is inside so it's outside. 

I can feel it. Her insight resonates deeply.  And my fascination with symmetry. Symmetry talks to me about this reflection of the inner and outer world.

And I tell her that I have been intensely watching the reflection of sunshine on the water. I can't stare at the source of beauty directly. The sun will hurt my eyes. But its reflection on the water can be easily perceived and enjoyed. I feed from the source of beauty through its reflection.

And our own beauty is sometimes only perceived through the loving glance of a loved one. Especially when we are little children.

Happy birthday Mica! You're 10! You've been counting the days till your B-day for a couple of weeks.

You're so full of yourself in a good way! Full of life and love for yourself. You know you're the HOT deal and that deserves some celebration.

You're fun and warm and lovable and magnetic. Everybody wants to be your friend. It's fun to be around you....and with your voice you could sing a thousand tangos!

I remember when you were a baby, breastfeeding at midnight, your tiny hand on my arm felt like a little cloud, very light yet so powerful. That's you, light spirit and warmth in a lovely combination! Happy 10

Another morning practice by the river with the ladies

The silver poplar...Rustling leaves......such a pretty sound.

The question of if you believe in God or not maybe the wrong question after all.

If you look at the mystery of life around you and inside you, and you're absolutely dazzled by it, and you can't help but to let this amazement be your main focus most of your time, and you wish to actively contemplate it, then you may call yourself a "believer". Or simplify and use  the word "God" or "spiritual world" to name the marvel you perceive and love so much. You simply love this enormity so much!

Believers and non believers enjoy the same evidence, it's just that believers are more impressed by it :)

Weekend with the Ladies

These lovely women and I have been studying and practising tai chi together for over twenty years.

Each has her path, her joys and challenges, her own life but strong commitment with understanding of self has been the main focus for us all, and Taoism is our path. Taoism is not a mystical or religious path but a practical one. With focus on preventive medicine and health, starting there you can go as far as you need and can reach.

We had an utterly delicious weekend at P.'s house at the countryside. A practice and study gathering in Nature

The house was a dream, inside and out.

My kind of rustic dream

Without any fixed agenda we practiced the form, qi gong, breathing, self massage, sitting practices and interaction with Nature

 

Taking beauty in, taking nature in, taking tree in, taking bird song in. 

(Hi furry friend!)

And resting, and chatting and enjoying each other's company.

A good amount of time spent in the kitchen around the big table, preparing natural delicious meals and more chatting of course!

And many toasts were made! Taoism is all inclusive of life great joys and pleasures!

At night, by the fire, calmer inner practices, and some I Ching reading. One for the group. The bad hexagrams are the ones which teach the most :)

There will be more soon I hope. We all felt so lucky for this time of deep rest and attention and play!

Rio de la Plata

Rio de la Plata. Every morning I walk for an hour by the river.

 

I enjoy the ever changing dramatic skies...

And most of all, the reflection of sun on the water.

Open horizon, open skies, oxygen and light! Suits me so very well....
